Who is Jesus?

He is the Son of God.

Am I not also a child of God?  Am I not also a son of God?  Is there any difference between Jesus and myself?

Yes - we are sons and daughters of God - but Jesus is different - He is God Himself

But how do you know He is God Himself?

The Bible tells me so.

Where in the Bible does it say so?

John 1:1, 14 Referring to Jesus as the Word, John writes: "In the beginning was the Word...and the Word was God.  The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

But where did John get the idea that Jesus is God? 

Jesus must have told him and the rest of His disciples.  The idea that a human being can be God is repulsive to most Jewish minds.  All Jews are taught from childhood that there is only one God in heaven - besides Him there is no other! 

But this is the starting point of the Christian faith - we believe that Jesus' claim concerning Himself is true - He is truly God and truly human at the same time.

If I have one unguarded spot - it will find it!

That's my thought for the new year - I took all the precautions because I knew there were mosquitoes around.  I put repellent, I wore long sleevesand socks to protect every square inch of my skin and went to sleep.  But when I turned in my sleep an exposed just a tiny bit of skin around my waist, the diligent mosquito found it and attacked it with a vengance!

The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8 

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Our enemy knows our weaknesses and will attack precisely in those areas.  No wonder the Lord taught us to pray every day - "Deliver us from the evil one."

Amazing!

I was having dinner at the home of someone who is a wine collector.  He has a his own wine cellar!  One of his guests actually paid $25,000 for ONE bottle!  Our host promptly donated the whole amount to a church's building fund.  Amazing!

Interfaith Challenge

I hope my conservative friends will not be too offended by the interfaith logo on the right or by this entry.  But I had a really good time learning from a representative of the Buddhist, Hindu and Islamic faiths at an interfaith discussion on the question of sexuality. 

The Buddhist spoke of the joy of enlightenment being far greater than the joy of sex.

The Hindu roughly divided life into 4 blocks of 25 years painting a wonderful picture of growth into maturity and ultimately perfection.

The Muslim impressed me with his ability to memorise the Koran - but more importantly his keen perception of both the Justice and Mercy of Allah.

I was enriched!

Too much TV!

I hardly ever watch TV - but in the last 2 weeks I have spent 8 nights in a hotel room with over 60 channels!  That proved too much of a temptation for me on 4 of those nights - watched 6 movies!  I remember what Jesus said - 'if your eye causes you to sin - tear it out!' Now the eye is a wonderful gift - but even something good can be bad for you!  I kept telling myself - 'I'll just switch it on for a few minutes....' but even 2 hours later - I struggled to turn off the set!!
